-September 17th: Occupy Wall Street
I wanted to show this one first to make sure as many people as possible see it. It appears to be a rather hands-on attempt to fix Wall Street: An indefinite, tent-city occupation of Wall Street, which the organizers would like to see continue for “months”. I plan to be there to cover as much of it as possible. I’ll try to get audio, video, and interviews. Here’s the link (adbusters is awesome btw): http://www.adbusters.org/campaigns/occupywallstreet
-Debt Ceiling/Downgrade
So I’m sure everyone’s heard about this. Our economy got sent down to the minor leagues. AA-ball. What does that mean for you, Joe/Janet Everyperson? Well I’m not sure, but I think this article knows a bit:

-Insider info: Did somebody know about the US’s downgrade before it happened, and use that knowledge to make BANK? It’s been done before (allegedly)...

-Media Blackout on S&P Suggestions: The absence of Republicans in senate willing to raise revenue was a large reason for the downgrade (according to the downgraders). Is this being under reported?

-Riots/Protests in London, Chile, Spain, Syria....everywhere really
There’s a growing anti-government, anti-police, and anti-oppression sentiment both in Europe and around the world. In some countries, the protest has grown to rather large and violent proportions.
Tottenham, North London - After the shooting death of 29yo Mark Duggan by police, blokes in Tottenham just aren’t taking it anymore. Since I recorded my show for this week (on Monday), the riots have severely escalated. I don’t want anyone to think I was understating the situation: There is great violence and rioting occurring, and as one would expect the original intent of the movement has degraded into tomfoolery rather than a quest for vengeance. Still, we will have to wait and see what happens next.

-In entirely unrelated British news, Liberal Dems in London are moving to decriminalize ALL personal drug use.

-In even LESS related news, Outkast rapper Big-Boi was arrested for drug possession following what was a pretty fun cruise: http://www.tmz.com/2011/08/08/big-boi-drugs-police-report-ecstacy-mdma-viagra-drug-dogs-customs-border-patrol-miami-dade-police-outkast-arrested-rapper-drugs/
Back to business: Chile don’t need no govt. control: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/aug/05/chile-student-protests-violence
“A quip from a good friend of mine currently in the middle of the Chile protests [all sic]: So in Chile there are student protests all over Santiago. You literally can't go anywhere without running into them... I got teargassed on the way to class this morning by the [police].... entire departments are going on strike, and I don’t have class till Wednesday.... it's really exciting to be a part of.”
Protesters have taken over Madrid Square in Spain. Where have we seen this before...: http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iDPFHYHT3_97IGFWXS4rhoZPc3nA?docId=CNG.b36a715ab130ce2bbcf6408109ec0b93.111
A quote from a Spanish protester: “"I asked them to be more respectful of the protesters. My goal was to show that it does not matter if they hit us, we are not afraid. I think this movement deserves the people's support," he told AFP,.."I had my back to the police and they struck me three times, once in my arm. The riot police hit everyone, women, old people."
-In other news, Michelle Bachman thinks economy can easily be fixed by beating a dead horse as hard as possible: http://ontd-political.livejournal.com/8535097.html
-In the world of female role models you’d want your daughter to admire, here’s a story about the first woman 10th degree blackbelt in Judo

-A Missouri school banned Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse 5 from their library, so Vonnegut’s foundation gave all the students free copies. HA.
-In news that strikes close to the heart for me and my fellow Free Pressers/Freedom fighters out there. a man who made a few satirical videos of his local police force is now being accused of felony in what is being called a “raw abuse of power” by law enforcement.

Wrapping it up with some local news, Joe Lieberman thinks war half-a-world away is more important than a stable, healthy society at home. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article28742.htm
