Anyone really interested in music does not care about the color of the skin, the color of the eyes, and the style of the hair of the musicians or anything else visual that one CAN’T see with their ears. Branding of music and music videos are only manmade inventions intended for promotional purposes, selling a product. Encouraged by people that can’t make art but want to get some of the glow off the artist and make some money off them. Sadly promotional music videos are a distraction from the music or worse, a devaluing of the sublime frequencies the artist tapped into creating in the music. Subverting the mental imagery and experience of the listener with what someone else wanted the listener to think or feel when they listen to the music as they associate the visual images of a promotional music video with the audio experience. Too often, these days songs are used as projectiles or weapons hurled by DJ’s with an agenda that is hidden from the larger listener audience and robs them of their time, until they switch to something else. All under the guise of diversity playing songs that the DJ’s doesn’t even like comes to mind. I wish I had dollar for every crappie song that got played on the radio because the title of a song, or artist, or album fit some below the radar message. ‘Album’ what’s that? A ‘full body’ of work, on vinyl records, on compact disc on digital file? What makes me vomit is the idea of bullies messing with sensitive artists, musicians, writers etc. so the bullies can feel better about all the things going wrong with their lives/world but can’t face. Instead they look for faults in other people as a distraction but is only a temporary relief. Next time you pick a battle and want to swagger around, ‘smiting thee down’ n’stuff pick a battle worthy of grownups at a higher learning level that you represent when `you do the station identification.
