This portion of Sunday's "BG Cafe" was made possible because Joe Dempsey went home for the Easter holiday, thus vacating his 2-4PM timeslot this week. I will confess that I don't really consider this our "regular" showtime, so in these types of fill-ins, I give myself "permission" to play music that is not purely BG (but is most likely from the "classic country" category). For today, I thought it would be nice to celebrate the upcoming birthday of Country Music Hall of Famer, Merle Haggard, who was born April 6, 1937. "The Hag" (think this would be Haggard's nickname if he was a woman?) is a much-admired singer and songwriter by lots of BG performers, and so, it was pretty easy to find plenty of BG covers of some of his many hits. In these 2 hours, we put together a set of Hag tunes, even including music from the "Poet of the Common Man" himself. Hope you liked what you heard...
