This Friday during my show (10am-noon on whus.org) I will be airing an interview with Jamie Stewart, frontman & only consistent member of experimental electronic act Xiu Xiu. Xiu Xiu recently released their album “Dear God I Hate Myself.”
I had the pleasure of seeing them play at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA last weekend, & did not want to leave. As much as I enjoy each of their studio albums, you really need to see Xiu Xiu live. The vocals are spot on, but the awkward, tense, emotional energy of the music is really conveyed in person. The instrumentals (including Nintendo DS & Bird Calls!) sucks the listener into a wall of sound that I cannot foresee one escaping willingly. Angela Seo provides a raw energy that clashes wonderfully against Stewart’s soft but commanding vocals.
