This show featured the great guitarist John McLaughlin. McLaughlin was one of the most influential artists of the 70's that fused progressive rock with the virtuoso musicianship and complexity of jazz composition. That trend began with Miles Davis's Bitches Brew recording, and was taken to another level by McLaughlins Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tony Williams Lifetime, Weather Report, Herbie Hanckock and Chick Corea among others. We will hear John McLaughlin in many different settings. The show starts with John rocking out with the original Mahavishnu Orchestra, followed by a more traditional jazz setting with Joe Farrell, and the Indian Fusion group Shakti. The podcast ends with two extended compositions, one with the London Symphony and his latest project Five Peace Band.
