As there was A LOT of great BG happening in southern New England over the weekend of May 7-9th, Jim & I thought it might be fun to try a get a little bit of it on the air for you live at the weekly free-form radio program at WHUS known as the "Fiat Flux."  This was our first attempt at scheduling an event like this, and we're absolutely delighted to report that it went extremely well.  Thanks to everyone who listened, and most especially, MANY THANKS to the great performers who shared their talents so early in the morning (early, that is, for performers -- voices don't always like to cooperate with the singing before noontime):

  • The Spinney Brothers -- A top-notch traditional BG band from north of the border -- Nova Scotia, Canada. Brothers Allan (guitar) & Rick Spinney (banjo) were joined by their longtime mandolin player, Gary Dalrymple and bassman Wendell Boutilier for some great brother-style duet singing and even a dynamic gospel quartet.  Visit them online to learn more about their playing dates in the USA as they make the jump to being a full-time touring Bluegrass band:  www.spinneybrothers.com

  • David Peterson -- This native New Englander now makes his home in Nashville, but he is a tremendous performer no matter how he chooses to apply his craft, be it with his hardcore, straight ahead Bluegrass band, 1946, in his super-traditional country music grouping of Peterson's Old Time Country Review, or just him and his guitar.  We were happy to welcome him back to WHUS after he first visited in-studio with us in our old farmhouse location back in November 2006.  Visit him online, as well:  www.1946band.com

Be sure to join us for the best in Bluegrass every Sunday afternoon, as always -- the "Bluegrass Cafe" airs from 4-7PM each Sunday.  Is more live BG a possibility at WHUS?  Never say never...

Amy
