Democracy Now!
It's been a long time coming but it's finally here. The debut album from alt-country pioneers The Jayhawks is now available for the first time ever on CD on the Lost Highway label. The self titled release, also known as "The Bunkhouse Album", hit store shelves on May 18th. It was orginally released in 1986 with only 2000 copies pressed on vinyl. The original line up consisted of Gary Louris, Mark Olson, Marc Perlman and Norm Rogers. The only song ever officially released was "Falling Star" which was on last years anthology release "Music From The North Country". Some of the stand out songs from this CD include "The Liquor Store Came First", "Cherry Pie", "Let The Critics Wonder" and "King Of Kings". "We probably should've done this sooner, and tried to." said Louris. He also added: "Some of these songs, we were trying a little to hard to sound like somebody else, but some of them are brillantin their own right." Louris, Olson and the mid 90's Jayhawks lineup are reuniting for 3 shows at the historic Minneapolis night club, First Avenue, June 19- 21. Look for expanded reissues of the Jayhawks mid 90's albums coming soon.
