Iceland's talented female troubadour, who sounds to me like a young Joan Baez, finally has her 2007 homeland CD,Við og við, (rough translation: Every Now And Then) released in the USA. Ólöf Arnalds, pronounced "Oluff", is a classically trained violinist/singer.

Við og við won the best alternative album at the Iceland Music Awards and was "record of the year" by Iceland's largest daily newspaper.

Track listing:

  1. "Englar Og Dárar" – 3:00
  2. "Í Nýju Húsi" – 4:35
  3. "Klara" – 2:29
  4. "Við Og Við" – 5:39
  5. "Orfeus Og Evridís" – 5:38
  6. "Vittu Af Mér" – 4:15
  7. "Moldin" – 3:22

You don't need to understand Icelandic to enjoy this CD.  Music is a universal language. Olof is active on the Indie/Folk scene. She plays guitar, koto harp, and charango. Her voice has been compared to Vashti Bunyan and Joanna Newsom.  A new album, due later this year,  will include three songs in English. And, if you happen to catch a live concert, she just might include covers of "Please Don't Let Me Love You" (Hank Williams), "That Lucky Old Sun" (Johnny Cash), or "In Spite Of Ourselves" (John Prine).
