Imagine you and your friend are chasing eachother around a house. You are on opposite sides and running at the exact same speed. If you didn't already have the prior knowladge that this was taking place, you would have no reason to think there was another person running around the same house as you would not be able to see your friend. No apply the same principle to our solar system. What's to say that there can't be another planet that supports advanced life orbiting the sun at the same speed as ours so that we could never see it?
