Steve Davis, renowned trombone player and educator recently released an album called Images. This CD is comprised of musicians mostly from the Hartford area and songs all inspired by this region. If you are hip to the Hartford jazz scene, these fine musicians will be familiar to you. Steve Davis trombone, Dezron Douglas bass, Mike DiRubbo alto sax, David Bryant piano, Eric McPherson drums (special guests Josh Evans trumpet, Kris Jensen tenor sax). The tracks also reflect Davis' Hartford influence with song titles like Park Street, Tune for Calhoun, Rose Garden, Club 880 and others. The music is all solid hard bop, with all musicians showing off their considerable chops. Steve Davis' compositions and arrangements are tight and upbeat. His smooth sounding 'bone is always right on. Park Street has a slight latin rhythm influence that pays homage to the hispanic section of town that has also become a hotbed of jazz and latin music. Club 880 is just a swingin' straight ahead hard bop tune that features sax player Kris Jensen kickin' on tenor.
