Reading David's blog "California Inches Ever Closer to Marijuana Legislation", two songs immediately came to mind. Can they help swing the vote? You decide. The first is by Peter Stampfel (Holy Modal Rounders). It's titled "Balance The Budget":
BALANCE THE BUDGET
Peter Stampfel
Why spend a fortune
Trying to stamp out a weed
You know it’s hopeless
And you’ll never succeed
You can’t lick ‘em, join ‘em
That’s always been my creed
Now that we need it – where’s
That good old American greed
Can’t you see the gold mine
That’s passing you by
Uncle Sam could line his pockets
Every time we get high
You’ve got the demand
Now control the supply
It ain’t a cure for cancer
But it’s sure worth a try
Balance the budget Mister President
You know you’re smart enough to see
That growing marijuana
Makes more money for the land of the free
Put all the technology
We have in this land
To something constructive
Consider my plan
Plant Hawaiian seeds
In American soil
Make sure the farmers
Get paid for their toil
You’re backing tobacco,
Chrysler, and wheat
But the pot profit margins
Are really really hard to beat
Sell it in liquor stores
Ten dollars a pack
Five dollars profit
Five dollars tax
Balance the budget Mister President
You know you’re smart enough to see
That growing marijuana
Makes more money for the land of the free
It can be found on the CD "New Prohibition - The Musical History of Hemp"

The second tune is called "Point Of Sale" by Mike Pritchard.....
POINT OF SALE
Mike Pritchard
Illegal marijuana, it’s time we changed the law
Foreigners are selling their stuff by the bale
And we don’t make one penny at the point of sale
Chorus: Point of sale, point of sale
We’re missing the boat at the point of sale
We get our fair share of cigarettes and alcohol
But marijuana tax income, we lose it all
We spend too much money to put users in jail
Bill Clinton knows what is right, he just wouldn’t inhale
Chorus x2
We need every penny into this economy
Can’t balance the budget by throwing away our money
Put the farmers back to work with a new crop to sell
Build a school, and fix the roads, they’ll be money in the well
Mr taxman, govern man, hear my call
Marijuana - now’s the time to get off the ball
Chorus x2
As recorded by Duet2It on "Maine Vocals"

The above two CDs are highly recommended.
