When my pre-made CD's with the music I planned to use for most of my show decided they weren't going to work on the in studio player I decided to pick several random albums off the shelves in the air studio and see what happened, and fortunately I managed to grab some great music from the enormous selection and put together one of my best musical shows to date.  This was one of the more hectic experiences I've had in a long while, and although I'd rather not have it happen again my outlook on the planning of my show has changed dramatically.  From now on I will not try to pre-plan my show with a mix of my music and stuff I've already found in the studio library, with such a great selection availble I'd rather plan just enough of my music to allow time to find and select new music to both myself and you as the listener.  In almost any other situation this lack of preparation would drive me crazy but even though this was hard to handle as a new DJ it was also tremendously fun to try and wing an entire show.  So to compromise I'll probably do half and half, and as I grow more comfortable with the enormous selection of music in the studio I'll start to branch into music I'm less famliar with because although I was unprepared and had to make up tonight's show as it went along it was still almost entirely hip hop simply becuase I know what I like and can pick out a song that fits easier and quicker which is imperative when you only have 3-4 minutes to decide.  So stay tuned to WHUS and my show every other Thursday to see how it works out.
