Once again, I had the pleasure of reporting on the CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival for WHUS. It was an incredible event that showcased some of the great Grandmasters of the traditional Jazz idiom, as well as rising new artists sometimes stretching out into the realm of post modern free-jazz. The festival takes place on three stages simultaneously. Fifteen shows each day (5 per stage), over two days equals 30 performances. You can't catch them all, so you end up running from stage to stage trying to take in as much as you can.
Some of the highlights for me was seeing the "greats' on the big stage, like Ahmad Jamal, Chick Corea w/Roy Haynes, Kenny Garret and Christian McBride, and Wynton Marsalis playing with Dave Brubeck. But some of the most engaging shows were on the two smaller and more intimate stage settings where we heard incredible performances by JD Allen Trio, Anat Cohen, Matt Wilson Double Quartet (Matt's jazz quartet plus a wild String Quartet) and Conrad Herwig playing a set of Latin tinged Herbie Hancock compositions.
This year I reported live from the festival using Twitter and Facebook. With my iPad in hand, I could comment on the artists I was seeing in real-time, and interact live with my Facebook friends and WHUS listeners. Rather than re-hashing those moments with a detaiied review, I have posted my Twitter feed here. I hope this will give you a feel for my two days at Newport. Thank you, it's very wonderfull article it might be very polite for students.
