The Art Museums- “Rough Frame"

Fuzzy lo-fi indie

Enjoyable catchy songs with varying degrees of echo and fuzz to the music. Keeps to a nice moderate pace using a simple drum machine for beat. Vocals have a 70’s sound that fits interestingly with the fuzzy guitar. Sticks to their strengths throughout making a very solid whole.

Recommended tracks: 1,3,6,9

Rating: 8.7/10

My Robot Friend- “Soft-Core”

Vocally driven electronica with varied styles

Light vocals leading minimalist electronica with other instruments occasionally mixed in. A bit slow and uneventful at times. The songs featuring other artists add some much needed variety and flavor. Overall this album is ok but really nothing special.

Note: Track 12 is 20 seconds of silence before bonus track 13 (titled “23 Minutes in Brussels”)

FCC: 5

Recommended tracks: 3,2,4,13

Rating: 6.8/10

Brooke Waggoner- “Go Easy Little Doves

Folksy piano and singing

Slow paino and singing with occasional other “classical instruments” (see inside cover) mostly strings. Her classical training shows. She clearly knows what she is doing but this will not be many people’s thing, it was a little sappy for me at times. RIYL: Laura Veirs, Regina Spektor, St. Vincent, Cat Power

Recommended tracks: 8,6

Rating: 6.5/10
