Saturday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Norwich Free Academy (NFA) Bagpipe Club St. Patrick's Day concert "Leprechaun's Evolution" in Slater Auditorium on the NFA campus.  A couple hundred people enjoyed a rousing two hour program of traditional and modern Celtic-inspired music.   Tunes in the first hour included "The Wearing of the Green", "The Jolly Beggarman", "The Wild Rover" and a favorite of mine, "Cliffs of Doneen".  Performed expertly by Colleen Cournoyer and Dan Pisowloski on a variety of bagpipes. They were accompanied by Julie Laudon on fiddle and bass, Stacy Jewell on keyboard and guitar, and percussionists Kevin Palmer and Peter Pisowloski.  The evening doubled as their debut CD release event.  At intermission, the guests were treated to yummy complimentary home made refreshments. Unfortunately, no green ale.

The program continued with a unique blend of up tempo tunes including "Back to Donegal", "The Belfast Polka", and perhaps the highlight of the show - the title cut of the program -  "Leprechaun's Evolution", a wonderful original tune composed by the two pipers. Cuts from the CD will be included on upcoming editions of "Scandinavia To San Diego" here on WHUS on Friday afternoons.
