CURRENT SHOW
Dark Side of the Highway
Scandinavia To San Diego 03-18-11
I opened this week's show with two short piano pieces:
Baroque and me - Gabriela Montero - Baroque - Born in Caracas Venezuela, Gabriela received a toy piano in her playpen at the age of seven months.
Vivaldi: Spring - Gabriela Montero - Baroque - Gabriela will be performing on April 9th & 10th in Hyannis, MA with theCape Cod Symphony Orchestra at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center.
Dimming of the Day - Janet Dowd - 300 Miles - New Celtic music recommended by our own Joe Cavanagh.
There Were Roses - Danny Quinn - Tis A Fine Soft Day - An excellent version of the familiar song by Tommy Sands. The song is reviewed elsewhere on this website. "Tis A Fine Soft Day" is an Irish expression meaning "it's raining, just not too hard".
Ingele - Somi - Red Soil In My Eyes - Somi earned her undergraduate degrees in Anthropology and African Studies from the University of Illinois.
Unrequited Love - Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes - Latest album form Lykke just found its way to me, on this cut I hear a lot of Patsy Cline.

Merrily Kissed The Quaker's Wife/Haste To The Wedding - NFA Bagpipe Club - Sounds Familiar - If you read my concert review, you knew this was coming.
Ye Rambling Boys of Pleasure - The Chieftains & Loreena McKennitt - Tears of Stone
What It Says On The Tin - Katie Melua - Pictures - Katie is one of the most versitile of the current group of singers.
Cantaloupe Island - Taeko - Voice - One of my favorite CDs of 2010. A Herbie Hancock tune by a soulful singer with a taste for the funkier side of jazz.
Kilkelly Ireland - Kevin McKrell - The Wind Upon The Hill - A good rendition of the historical ballad by Peter Jones. You can read about the song under the reviews tab on our home page.
Se Ilden Lyse - Sissel - Innerst I Sjelen - Norwegian version of "Fire In Your Heart", one of Sissel's best known songs.
The Blacksmith - Wendy Arrowsmith - Seeds of Fools - Another CD just received this week, you'll be hearing more of it.
Zashto Taka - Dessy Dobreva - Tya E! - Folk-pop direct from Bulgaria, I do not have any translations.

O Estrangeiro - Caetano Veloso - Estrangeiro - A listener request, it took a wee bit of digging to locate our Veloso CDs, an excellent Brazilian composer, singer, guitarist and political activist. Glad I was able to locate his music.
This Love - Ellie Goulding - Lights - Ellie is an emerging artist from the UK, her first full length CD is impressive.
Our World - Maire Brennan - Perfect Time - from the depths of our record library.
Leaving The Land - Danny Quinn - Time For Change - I like Danny's voice, suits this Eric Bogle song well.
Too Hurt To Dance - Duffy - Endlessly - All these new CDs are nice to have to add to our playlists, Duffy's is no exception.
Sort of my little slice of Americana:
Nocturne in F# Minor - Annemieke Spoelstra - Toccare - Dutch born pianist now living in Burlington VT. I requested this CD after hearing her perform at First Night in Burlington. She teaches piano at St. Michael’s College and is accompanist for the VYOC, Vermont Youth Orchestra chorus and chorale.
