Pushing the Envelope
In 1979 Brit Rocker Graham Parker penned a tune called "Don't Bother With The Local Girls". Clearly Mr. Parker couldn't have known about "From The Lips Of Babes", the new EP from a very talented recording artist named Cori Presutti who hails from right here in Connecticut (Farmington). Cori, who began studying classical piano at the age of 3, has a voice that one would expect from a much more seasoned performer. The EP starts with "No More" a heartfelt, soulful ballad that sounds a little like Alicia Keys' early work. "Here's To The Girls" opens with sparse backing and very soon evolves into a real rocker. As a solo artist Cori's motto has always been keep it simple but affective and she puts that philosophy to work on "Jackie's Song", my favourite cut on this outstanding EP. "I pull inspiration from everything but I especially love when a song has soul - it doesn't matter if it's classical, latin, rock or blues - in order to be really special, every song needs that little touch of soul." The EP ends strongly with a tune called "I Wish You'd". I haven't heard anyone sing with such great feeling in a long time. Cori Presutti - a local girl worth checking out.
