The Inside Joke
The views expressed by the contributors on WHUS.org are not necessarily representative of WHUS Radio, its management or the University of Connecticut. As with WHUS’s airwaves, the contributors to WHUS.org have the right to speak freely and express their views under the regulation of the First Amendment.
WHUS is a non-commercial educational radio station, and our website operates under those same principles. We seek to educate and entertain the public, thereby using any and all material on WHUS.org in such a manner. We believe that the use of any and all material on WHUS.org can be characterized as fair use, under U.S. copyright law.
WHUS Radio supports and respects the artists, writers, editors, and producers who create individual content available on the web. WHUS.org encourages its users to enjoy legitimate downloadable media, and prominently displays links to purchase music from vendors such as Amazon.com. WHUS Radio offers users access to music on WHUS.org in the same spirit as when these songs are aired live on the terrestrial radio signal and the internet stream; to promote artists and encourage the support of artists by purchasing music after sampling.
WHUS is a fee-paying member of ASCAP/BMI, the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System and the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, who have all negotiated royalty agreements between non-commercial stations and copyright owners. On-demand availability of copyrighted material on the Web has yet to be fully negotiated between copyright owners and their representatives and content providers. In these still uncharted waters, WHUS must press on to remain a relevant media source.
WHUS takes all steps possible to ensure that no content is posted on WHUS.org that is in violation of any copyright, including obtaining waivers and releases from copyright owners to publish certain material. If WHUS does not receive waivers for certain material, the likelihood of that material being featured on WHUS.org is greatly reduced. If you are interested in releasing any copyrighted material to WHUS, please email copyright@whus.org.
WHUS Radio neither controls nor endorses any third-party websites that may host material. WHUS Radio does not assume any responsibility or liability for any materials available at these web sites, or for the completeness, availability, accuracy, legality or decency of these sites.
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (the “DMCA”) provides some recourse for copyright owners who believe that material appearing on the Internet infringes their rights under U.S. copyright law. If you believe in good faith that materials appearing on WHUS.org infringe your copyright, you (or your agent) can contact us requesting that we remove the material at copyright@whus.org.
