Richie B aka Rich Banz has been enjoying music since the first time he “really” heard “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles. It was the discovery of Iron Butterfly, Roxy Music, David Bowie and Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band in high school that fired up his passion for music that was creative and just a little off the beaten track. In 1982 he founded and promoted “The LIT Club” on 227 Lawrence St. in Hartford, CT. He hosted bands like Johnny Thunders, Mission of Burma, Killing Joke, The Circle Jerks, Social Distortion, The Members and local bands like The Reducers, Miracle Legion, The Furors, The Sterics, Electroflex, The M-80’s, October Days, Billy & The Buttons, Jack Tragic & the Unfortunates and many more. Unfortunately the club had to close that same year due to noise complaints from the neighborhood. In 1996 he took another shot at promoting when the Webster Theater in Hartford opened up. He produced some of the last live music shows at Mad Murphy’s on Union Place. He produced shows in other clubs in Hartford with acts like Low, The Geraldine Fibbers, Ida, Delta 52’s and Quinton and Ms Pussycat. He also assisted Stain in getting their big break by booked them with Fred Durst and his band Limp Bizkit. His final concert was Patti Smith in 1998 at the Webster Theater. The Hartford Courant said it was the best show of that year. Richie is a 1978 UCONN School of Business graduate. He lived in the IDC dorm at Rogers. He took the summer training class in 2010 and was on the airwaves in September. His show usually has him spinning Art Rock, Electronic, New York Rock n’ Roll sprinkled with some Brit-Pop and current releases. Hope to hear you listening soon.
