WHUS is holding a new contest!!
Your task: Write a theme song about why WHUS is awesome. The song can be in any genre, any length, can include any instruments, etc. You are free to do whatever you want. This can be a solo effort, or it can be performed by a band or group. If you are not musically inclined, you can also write the lyrics to a song, and we will find someone to perform it.
How to submit your song: You can submit your song by emailing it as an mp3 to promotions@whus.org, recording it onto a CD and putting it in Chelsea Dodds’ mailbox at WHUS, or uploading a video of yourself performing the song on youtube, and sending the link to promotions@whus.org.
Deadline: Sunday, February 28 at 11:59pm.
Songs will be judged by the WHUS operations board, and the winner will receive $91.70 and their song will be played on the radio.
This contest is not open to WHUS Staff (past or present, sorry guys).
Any questions can be directed to Chelsea at promotions@whus.org.

Facebook Event
Has the cold weather, bad economy and over abundance of Christmas music brought you down? Some booze and good food will help you forget the first two-while WHUS will take care of the latter.
Join your favorite WHUS D.J.’s and hosts Dave Gosh and Joe Dupnik as we pack up the plantation and DO IT LIVE Friday, December 18 from 1PM to 5PM at Bidwell Tavern in Coventry. Everyone(18+) is invited-bring your friends, your humor and your party pants-or no pants at all.
Joining the WHUS staff and alum will be local community representatives, artists and of course our wonderful listeners.
There’s no charge or cover (besides what you eat and drink), but please consider bringing some canned food to donate to those less privileged this holiday season. We’ll be trucking your contributions down to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic. Their “wish list” can be found here.
We hope to see you there!

Join us from 10AM to Noon on Saturday, May 2nd for a special edition of Fiat Flux on WHUS Radio (91.7 FM). We will be broadcasting live from Black-Eyed Sally’s (350 Asylum St. in Hartford) with special guests The Delta Generators.
Admission is free to this all-ages (family-friendly) show. Doors open at 9:30 in the morning.
Fiat Flux is a program focusing on live performance; be it music, poetry, storytelling, radio theater… anything, really, that catches the ear. Project-oriented (rather than DJ- or Genre-oriented) it aims to present something new and otherwise unavailable to a discerning audience, every week. Fiat Flux airs every Saturday morning at 10 AM.
The Delta Generators hail from Worcester, MA. Winners of the 2008 Boston Blues Society Blues Challenge; they were finalists at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, this past February. As their name implies, they combine the urgency and soulfulness of delta blues with the power and energy of early rock ‘n’ roll. The combination of clever songwriting and inspired performances on their new CD “Devil in the Rhythm” shows why critics and audiences are calling them the best new blues band in New England. The Delta Generators are: Craig Rawding (Lead Vocals/Harmonica), Rick O’Neal (Bass/Backing Vocals), Charlie O’Neal (Guitar), and Jeff (J.J.) Armstrong (Drums). See www.deltagenerators.com for more information.
Black-Eyed Sally’s opened in 1995, as a tiny and fiercely independent BBQ and Blues joint. Since then, it’s reputation and scope have only soared, as they’ve continued doing the things they do best: serving up award-winning BBQ and Cajun cooking and showcasing the best in national and regional blues, jazz and roots music acts.
The Delta Generators will be performing at Black-Eyed Sally’s on Saturday evening, May 9th, as well, but we’re also inviting you to this intimate, sneak-preview and interview program. A meet-and-greet with the band follows immediately.
Come for the music and stay for lunch!

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who pledged this year to help make Radiothon a success! We will have more on this later, but you all really pulled through for us and made it possible for us to reach this year’s goal of $25,000 (with $51 to spare). So again, thanks to every one of you from all of us at WHUS!
March 10th, 2009
As many of our loyal listeners know, every year around March WHUS holds Radiothon, its annual fund drive where listeners get to give back to the station they listen to year round. All public radio and TV stations depend, at least to some extent, on the financial support of their listeners, and that includes WHUS. This year, Radiothon will run from March 14-22. This year, we have a special goal, which is to complete the music library.
